“Scoop the Poop”

Windhound Photography is excited to partner with the Elizabeth River Project for a 2024 “Scoop the Poop” pet calendar contest!

The Elizabeth River Project is a growing non-profit organization leading the effort to restore the health of our historic urban river, while affirming her value to our region’s maritime economy.

All proceeds from entries, votes, and calendar sales will support the Elizabeth River Project in promoting responsible pet stewardship by highlighting the effects of dog waste on the Elizabeth River and the impact to our local environment.

Donations will also support the Elizabeth River Project’s innovative river restoration projects and environmental education across our community.

ENTER THE “SCOOP THE POOP” 2024 CALENDAR CONTEST

Enter your pup and vote for your favorites to win a spot (or cover!) in the 2024 “Scoop the Poop” pet calendar, while raising much-needed funds for the Elizabeth River Project.

All calendar contest entries, votes, and calendar sales will directly support the Elizabeth River Project.

Calendar contest entries close May 31st. Voting ends June 3rd.

Calendars will be available for purchase in October 2023.

Is the calendar contest only open to dogs?

Because monthly and cover photo sessions will take place outdoors along the Elizabeth River Watershed, only dogs can enter the photo contest.

If you have a charismatic kitty, a bouncy bunny, or other companion species, consider Reserve a Grid Space for their adorable image!

Can I enter more than one dog?

You sure can, but there is a limit of one dog per photo entry. Each calendar photo entry is $5.

Posting more than one photo of your dog won’t increase chances of winning.

People are not allowed in photos, only your pup. Photos that do not follow contest rules will be removed and will not be eligible to win with no opportunity for a refund.

What is a "Reserve a Grid Space"?

Celebrate your pet’s birthday, gotcha’-day, or remember a special pet by reserving a grid space for their photo. Choose a favorite photo, calendar date, and pay.

Each month has a limited number of squares and will be filled on a first come, first served basis.

The one-time fee to Reserve a Grid Space is $10.

All companion species are welcome to Reserve a Grid Space in the calendar.

What can I win?

The winners of the photo contest will be determined by the top 13 entrants that get the most votes.

The overall winning entry will earn a spot on the cover of the 2024 calendar.

Each vote is $1, making it easy to get your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers in on the fun!

The remaining 12 winners will have their dog featured as a pet of the month. The top 13 vote getters will have their pooch professionally photographed by Windhound Photography for the 2024 calendar. All winners will also have an opportunity to upgrade to a standard pet portrait  session and/or purchase products following their session.

Additionally, the entry that receives the highest number of new votes during several fun mini-contests will win a gift from a sponsoring businesses. There’s some amazing prizes for our mini-contests, so even if you aren’t on the leaderboard for the 13 calendar spots, you’re encouraged to get some other swag by winning a mini-contest.

You can only win one mini-contest prize. We want to share the love after all.

When and where will the winning photo sessions be held?

Complimentary calendar contest sessions will be held on pre-determined dates in June and July 2023 at select locations along the Elizabeth River. Don’t worry if your dog doesn’t enjoy being in or around water, most sessions will be held high and dry on adjacent shores.

We’re scouting some epic locations and final details will be provided to winners upon completion of the calendar contest.

How will the funds be used?

All proceeds from the entries, votes, and calendar sales will support the Elizabeth River Project in promoting responsible pet stewardship by highlighting the effects of dog waste on the Elizabeth River Watershed and the impact on our local environment.

Donations will also support the Elizabeth River Project’s innovative river restoration projects and environmental education across our community.

Does my dog need to live in Hampton Roads?

Entries from outside Hampton Roads are welcome, but you must be available for your designated photo session along the Elizabeth River Watershed on a predetermined date in June or July.

If you are unable to commit to a photo session, if your pet is ill, injured or deceased, or you are unable to travel to the pre-selected location, your winning spot will be forfeited and the next top vote getter will take your pet’s spot in the calendar. No exceptions.

For complete rules and eligibility requirements, please review the official Contest Rules on the contest entry site.
